Early Psychosis Youth Centre (EPYCentre)

Ruah has extensive experience supporting young people, particularly those with severe mental health diagnoses, and its EPYCentre is a specialist functional recovery service for young people aged 12 to 25 years.

Professional staff support clients and their families from across Perth’s southern suburbs who are referred by mental health professionals. Staff walk alongside clients assisting them to develop a personal recovery plan incorporating life goals, education, employment, recreation and fitness or manage stress and build social connections. The service is also available to young people experiencing sexual identity, gender orientation, transcultural or other challenges.

Based in Cockburn, it is a welcoming environment where young people who have experienced psychosis can plan their own recovery. Research shows that recovery is not just about clinical intervention but relies on having meaningful supports, services and connections that build capacity over time and equip young people to better manage their own situation and mental health.

The EPYCentre team includes staff with lived experience who share their experience, insights and practical advice. The program is funded by the WA Primary Health Alliance and offers counselling, peer support and functional recovery support planning.

What young people can expect

We understand that the road to mental health recovery is a unique journey, and everyone’s experience is different. That is why we provide services and support to suit your particularly needs and circumstances – so they feel right for you.

The EPYCentre team will talk with you to find out how your mental health is affecting your life. Then, we will help you set goals and make a plan to help you reach those goals. Our aim is to give you the skills and capacity to improve your mental wellbeing.

Your plan may include education, employment, recreation and fitness, or strategies to manage stress and build social connections, with individual and group sessions depending on your interests and needs
